Day 6LinderhofLinderhof, Oberammergau & on to Munich

King Ludwig II, who reigned from 1864 to 1886, may have been Bavaria's most quirky king, but he is also its most beloved. He lived in a bit of a fantasy world, dressed up frequently as a medieval king, stayed up all night, and often imagined that he was dining with Louis XV and Marie Antoinette (who were long since deceased). He also built three magnificent castles, including Linderhof Palace. Linderhof was the king's personal retreat - built in splendid Rococo style, an homage to Versailles and the pre-French Revolution belief in the divine right of kings, for which he was nostalgic. Go inside for a private guided visit, enjoying a close-up look at his royal abode. Continue on to Munich, stopping for lunch in the village of Oberammergau, renowned for its Passion Play, performed here by the locals every ten years since 1634. Have dinner at your choice of restaurants in your landmark hotel in Munich.
